Assessment framework

Assessments of families and their dependent/s at TY are conducted in keeping with the Department of

Health’s “Framework for the Assessment of Children in Need and their Families” and also the

“Working Together to Safeguard Children” publication.  TY’s overall strategy is underpinned by the following principles inbuilt in the Children Act 1989.” The Welfare Principle” the welfare of the Child is paramount.

This is the overriding principle and “The Partnership Principle” In all circumstances, no matter how difficult, individuals, agencies and organisations working with families should strive to work in partnership with the Local Authorities and other professionals.

Assessments of families and their dependent/s at TY, are led and co-ordinated by Lead Assessing Social Workers who undertake to establish a detailed understanding of the family.

All Assessments are PAMS, and Parent Assess informed utilising elements of the parenting assessment tools. Using PAMS and ParentAssess ensures that every family receives the resources, care and understanding they require and deserve, whilst evidencing their capacity to change and safely parent their child. Equally, it provides us with a parallel evidenced-based assessment which reflects more accurately parent’s knowledge, skills, and practice.

TY believes that best practice demands a multi-disciplinary approach, using evidence-based practice to achieve the best outcomes for its client group. We, therefore, liaise closely with providers of relevant local services/resources such as GPs, Health visitors, Drug & Alcohol programmes, Domestic Violence  intervention projects, CMHT and effective parenting courses, as well as all professionals and significant others who are involved in the lives of the parents and their children.

TY offers placements to single mothers and single fathers with one or more children. We can offer *two parent residential placements or one parent residential/one parent community based.

*Two parent residential placements – Note that if we are required to comment on sole caring parenting capacity, we will build in one parent going offsite for a time limited period to assess the other parent as part of the assessment process.

We can offer placements comprising of one or more children of any age, we assess this as part of the pre-placement risk assessment.
